Fire extinguisher prices rise sharply
Who knew a run on fertilizer could affect fire installers and integrators? Well, that’s exactly what’s happening, with a chemical that’s used in both fertilizer and in fire extinguishers.

The result? Prices that are “eight to 10 times higher than the price two years ago,” said James Jordano, vice president Supply Chain and Field Operations, UTC Fire & Security, in an email interview. In addition to its other lines of business, UTC manufactures more than 14 million fire extinguishers.

Pivot3 eliminates the server from video surveillance
ATLANTA, USA--High-definition storage maker Pivot3 made a splash at this years ASIS International show with its new "serverless computing" platform, whereby video management, PSIM and virtually any other security software can be run directly on Pivot3's storage solution, eliminating the need for a server in a video surveillance solution. The solution debuts with integration with software makers Exacq, Genetec, Lenel, Milestone and OnSSI, and certified integrators Southwest Surveillance Systems, Connections IT, Aware Digital and Broadcast Technologies.

Sony Firmware Upgrade for Blu-ray BDP-S350

They promised, and now they've delivered. Sony has just released the firmware update for their BDP-S350 Blu-ray Disc Player to add BD-Live functionality, improved BD-Java compatibility, and better remote control sensitivity for  when the player's in stand-by mode.

Sprinkler victory in Minneapolis, USA

After years of trying, sprinkler advocates scored a major victory this week, when the International Code Council voted overwhelmingly to include a residential sprinkler requirement in the International Residential Code.

The vote, which took place here Monday, was 1282 to 470, according to Jeff Hugo, manager of codes for the National Fire Sprinkler Association. "We're very happy," Hugo said.

Burmester introduces new slim loudspeakers

Burmester has introduced a series of three slim-line loudspeakers. Models B30, B25, and B20 models are three-way, full-range, floorstanding models that share many of the B100 reference unit's features, including Kevlar-coned midrange drivers and a B100 derived crossover tailored for the drivers that deliver a very linear frequency response in the critical 300 Hz - 3.5 kHz range.
